V/A AND VINYL

June 10, 2009

Mutek just put out a V/A of past Canadian performers and one of my tracks is featured. Telepathy will be one of a few tracks released on a new 12″ on Anticipate. Should be out within the next month. Until then you can download the track from iTunes.

MARK TEMPLETON: INLAND

NEW ALBUM

March 14, 2009

My new album Inland will be released on May 11th on Anticipate Recordings. I will be posting some artwork as well as more info about the album soon.

CLARIFICATION…

February 19, 2009

Seems as though Acre Loss is being treated as a project where I exclusively did the music and aAron the visuals. This is not the case. We created the music together. We created the visuals together. Collaborative throughout.

UPCOMING 12″

February 13, 2009

I’ve been working on 3 tracks for an upcoming 12″ that will be released on Anticipate in the near future. It’ll feature 2-3 unreleased tracks, along w/ a few tracks from Inland. Which is scheduled to be released in May.

Also, some of the Anticipate artists have been talking about posting some of their live sets on the Facebook page. If you’ve not already joined the group you can do so through the label’s site.

LISTENING

January 25, 2009

Lately I’ve been trying to work on new material, but to no avail. It could be that I’ve been watching too much Star Trek, M*A*S*H and now Columbo. I do, however, have a few new tracks that I completed a while back, but wanting to continually be working on new material. I intend to spend more time in Ableton Live, to be producing work that is geared more towards live performance. As it stands now I work mainly in Logic, since I edit my audio files so much.

I recently started teaching Music Technology at a small college. I’ve been listening to a lot of different artists (Etta James, Buddy Holl, Soft Cell…). As a result I’ve been meaning to post something about some of the music that has impacted me over the past year. Not a year end list, just some albums that I’m likely lately.

Giuseppe Ielasi: Stunt EP – had the chance to see him live in Ferrara in October. Was really inspired by his performance and really enjoying this album. I get the feeling that it may be a surprising listen for a number of people who are ultra familiar w/ his previous works.

Claudio Rocchetti: Another Piece of Teenage Wildlife – he also performs in 3/4hadbeeneliminated. I visted the Die Schachtel label shop when I was in Milan, Italy. I got my hands on a number of their releases by some other great Italian artists like Luciano Cilio and Andrea Belfi.

Gas 4 disc box set

Ezekiel Honig: Surfaces of a Broken Marching Band – his best work yet.

Deepchord: Vantage Isle – was recently given this by a friend. In the past I haven’t listened to much techno (or all the sub genres surrounding it), but I think I’ll be listening to more of it in the future.

Fennesz: Black Sea

Growing: All the Way

Vincent Gallo: When

LIVE THOUGHTS

January 11, 2009

Some shows coming up, which I will post info about later.

I’ve been thinking a lot about live performance and what it means for artists who process, edit and create their music w/ software. The tour encouraged me to reconsider some things I was sure of.

Thinking a lot about the use of the guitar live and how it needs to be used, improvised and prepared sets, software and a few other things… like M*A*S*H. I’ve been watching season 2 and can’t get enough of these folks.
